Socality is my home. I often am overcome with a feeling of loneliness, But I forget of all the friends and family I've met since I joined this community a year ago. Spending time at the conference with them, just reminded me that I am apart of something. That there is a group of people who are all trying to reach the same goal, and who have similar passions. I'm so blessed that Socality exists, and that I am apart of it. I'm super excited to take everything I learned at Socality, and bring it back to Sacramento.

Socality is a clear picture of one of my favorite quotes by Darren Hilleman "Family is not something you are born into, it's something you fight to create." As soon as I got to the conference I felt part of a larger family, the idea of all of us being together for the same purpose was exciting, inspirational and life giving. Socality was four days full of community, growth and enrichment.
I have been challenged to use my gifts and talents in creative ways to make an impact for eternity. I now understand that each individual has a potential to be a movement within their community.

I'll admit it my exceptions for Socality were low, I didn't expect much. I thought of it more of a bunch of creative people in there own distinct cliques getting together to possibly try and get to know each other. But after the first night that exception and judgmental idea was shattered. Everyone was very inclusive and genuine. I got a new perspective of a healthy community, which included the idea that we are all imperfect and we need grace for each other. But what challenged me the most was, we need a theology of insecurity.
thank you Socality.

I came to Socality knowing absolutely no one. My accent gave away that I was from half way across the world - I was on a mission to discover a deeper meaning to my creativity. I have always had a deep longing in my heart that knew there could be more than just taking pretty photos and throwing them out into cyberspace. I yearned for purpose, meaning, intentionality, community. When I wrote "I am @socality" 3.5 years ago I barely knew what I was saying. But nothing could have prepared me for all that I've learnt and the places I've been taken through it.
Socality is bringing people into community and doing life day by day with them. Through Socality I have built online communities into real life relationships that have changed my life. I am and always will be socality; part of a social community all for eternity.

I can’t begin to explain the wonderful experience I had this Socality PDX weekend.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I arrived to the doors of Socality, when I first meet the first guys that now I consider my brothers of many that I met that weekend.
Socality PDX was an experience for me that totally change my life. The friendships I developed will be for eternity because everyone was so honest and carrying. The workshops were beyond exciting and so good, and for me the film workshop was so inspiring. Everyone was so humble and patient, so I never felt out of place. I felt like I belong.

How do I get to Camp?
If you are travelling internationally, you need to fly into the Calgary Airport in Calgary, Alberta (YYC). We will have bus transport for those arriving into the airport. These buses will return you to the same places of pick up at the end of camp.
You can drive your own vehicle to camp and park it on site. Once you are at camp, we will travel as a group on the buses.
Who will lead the Excursions?
We will have leaders on every bus as well as trained guides from the camp that are very familiar with the areas and hikes. All locations have been chosen for optimal light and time of day for hiking and photography purposes.

Yes, this event is 18+ and all event participants will be required to sign a waiver.
What do I need to bring to the event?
A sleeping bag, pillow and a foam mattress or extra layer (thermarest/ camping pad) for your bed.
The camp will take place the first week of fall so it will be best to bring warmer clothes for evening and sleeping and have layers for the days. Bring good boots and shoes for the excursions and comfortable clothes for the camp. It may be wet, so bringing waterproof boots and a rain jacket is recommended.
Other Items to Consider
Camera and video equipment
Computer/ Hard drives
All chargers (yes there is electricity)
Appropriate autumn clothing and boots

Water bottle, backpack, headlamp
What are food & accommodations like?
All meals (except one night in Banff) will be provided- including breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. The camp is only able to accommodate allergies. You are welcome to bring additional snacks for the week. Accommodations are shared canvas tents and cabins that sleep 10-12 people and are separated by gender (male and female). Couples who wish to stay together should consider bringing their own tent. The cabins are heated and the canvas tents have wood fire stoves. They will keep you warm through the night. You can always choose to BYOT (bring your own tent). We cannot accommodate bigger set ups like RV’s. Keep in mind if you BYOT to prepare for the cooler autumn nights.
If you are coming with a friend you can request to stay in the same tent or cabin and we will do our best to accommodate. Cabins and tents all have the same bunk-bed cot set up. These are given based on availability not request.
Is there WiFi and cell service?
There will be wifi at the camp but as we will in the mountains, this sometimes can lead to inconsistency in the quality and availability of the service. There will be times when we will be in various spots with better wifi and cell service than others. For international users, please contact your provider for cellular and data plans in Canada.
What will the weather be like?
September is very unpredictable. It could be very warm during the days but it will be cooler through the nights. While this is the most beautiful week of the year with the changing fall colors there may be some rain and even possibly light snow.
How much physical activity is involved?
Alberta is surrounded by incredible mountain ranges. Many of the places we visit will have extremely easy access points and involve very little activity to enjoy these amazing views. However, some of the excursions will involve some minor hikes from 20 mins up to 2 hours. All hiking is optional. If you opt out of hikes, you can enjoy the areas where we visit while others hike.
